Marilyn McCoo
Chairperson
Entertainer/Ministry
Beverly Hills, CA
You may remember Marilyn McCoo from her Grammy-winning "The 5th Dimension" days. She is currently active in the entertainment industry...and has a deep commitment to helping homeless women and children.
Marilyn McCoo, as chairperson of the board, brings with her a giving heart and a sensitivity to women and children’s issues. Marilyn first became involved with the Los Angeles Mission through the Celebrity Action Council, a group dedicated to ministering to the needs of women at the Mission’s Anne Douglas Center.
She says, “ Seeing women respond in a positive way because of our presence made a difference, and my perspective on homelessness changed when I saw how much these women are just like you and I.”
Because of her involvement with the Los Angeles Mission, through the Anne Douglas Center and volunteering to serve at holiday meals, she has seen the effectiveness of the Mission in serving our community.
She and her husband of 33 years, Billy Davis, Jr., have recently decided to devote themselves to ministry work and allowing the Lord to direct their efforts to serve Him. Serving on the Board of the Los Angeles Mission is an opportunity for Marilyn to follow her calling.
Another current project of Marilyn and Billy’s is their praise group, “Soldiers for the Second Coming,” which was created by Billy to praise the Lord and to give people the opportunity to share God’s blessings in their lives. They visit Southern California churches with the musical group and hold the praise outreaches four times a month.
Marilyn has been involved with a number of efforts to improve the quality of people’s lives. For 13 years, Marilyn worked with Lou Rawls on the Parade of Stars telethon, raising funds for the United Negro College Fund and served as co-host on the Children’s Miracle Network for 15 years, raising money for children’s hospitals. She was also involved in Kwanza, a group of African-American women in the performing arts committed to having an effect on our community.
The Los Angeles Mission is proud to welcome such a stellar member to the Board with an open heart and talent, but most importantly, a woman who is committed to remaining steadfast in our vision of hope to those we serve.
